Louise scored 5 / 5 on 18/03/2024

Hidden gem very close to town but far enough away to enjoy a peaceful escape… staff from check in to check out were the friendliest and most professional we have encountered in a long time… room was super modern, clean and the bed was so comfy I took note of the mattress brand… my daughter used the bathroom during the night and I didn’t even hear the toilet flush… 5stars in my opinion

Donna scored 4 / 5 on 05/03/2024

Rooms were lovely and comfortable. Lovely breakfast both mornings. Friendly staff. Dinner lovely in restaurant. Loved the setting of hotel and woodland area by lake. Would return to hotel

Daphne scored 4 / 5 on 20/02/2024

Enjoyed a weekend break here. The hotel is in a gorgeous setting and our room had a beautiful view over the river. The leisure area is a great addition with lovely pool, sauna etc. The staff could not have been friendlier and the service was excellent. We really could not fault this hotel and will be recommending it to friends.

Vivien scored 3 / 5 on 20/02/2024

Room was too hot air conditioning didnt work we had to leave the windows open and then flys came into the room. The seats in the seating area is all broken in the steam room ,and the sauna wasnt working properly. Was disappointed there was no thermal suites as it is called hotel and spa and the leisure centre is like a community swimming pool. However the bar staff and reception staff were really lovely.

Georgia scored 5 / 5 on 20/02/2024

The hotel was beautiful, and the staff and food excellent.

Geraldine scored 5 / 5 on 13/02/2024

Fantastic staff. So friendly. Lovely bright hotel. Gorgeous views of stunning landscape. Spacious clean swimming pool and sauna etc.

Tom scored 3 / 5 on 07/02/2024

Not sure if I would recommend. We arrived to find the handle of the toilet had fallen off. We asked about it and went for a walk. They said it would be looked at. We came back and it came straight back off. We had our room changed straight away even tho they told us originally that they were fully booked for the following night? This meant check in took almost an hour. Not even a drink offered or any type of apology which I found odd. Got room service.. Hand cut chips (or something like that) mentioned but chips clearly skinny fries out of a bag. It was a nice hotel with some nice aspects but it needs a tidy up and it is literally falling apart in areas. Surprised I have not already been contacted.

Yvette scored 5 / 5 on 05/11/2023

Beautiful hotel, amazing staff. The housekeeping lady Katie was good, the restaurant guyz, the reception, the staff are friendly and so helpful. The facilities are well maintained. Good buffet breakfast and can order something if not there. I will definately be going back. My kids loved it. I wish they had childminding facilities though even for an hour but cannot fault them for that. It was a perfect experience.

Sinead scored 3 / 5 on 05/11/2023

Bath wasn't working. Heat in room didn't work either nor the rail for towels. Apart from this, its a lovely modern hotel. The background music in the restaurant could be much beter especially at dinner time..

Leona scored 2 / 5 on 09/07/2023

Hotel full of potential but unfortunately not being properly maintained. Beautiful water feature outside hotel full of weeds & overgrowth, salt and pepper trays on tables dirty, surfaces in hotel room sticky, small improvements would go along way, feel this hotel is being let slip despite its potential.Amazing views, beautiful walk around hotel not advertised, modern playground locked?? Despite all this felt staff were helpful & pleasant

Olivia scored 4 / 5 on 15/04/2023

Lovely hotel, amazing food well done to the kitchen staff. Pool was great for the little man. Staff very friendly and helpful, however very disorganised in the bar and restaurant. You could be waiting 15 min for drinks. The staff are young and it appeared they had no guidance or supervision from management in the bar/restaurant

Emma scored 5 / 5 on 12/04/2023

Hotel was not great and in need of a deep clean. No hot water in the room the second day. Manager said no other room available so we have to have cold showers. Checked online and there appeared to be 4 rooms still available that night. Breakfast was awful. Staff were very friendly in the bar

Therese scored 4 / 5 on 19/02/2023

Lovely hotel in beautiful settings. Best place we've ever been to for a relaxing break. It is not possible to see or hear traffic from the hotel grounds it was pure bliss to sit outdoors & lhear nothing but the birds. Its 7 or 8 mins drive to Kinsale town so a car would be required. Food was good, lunch menu limited. Staff were very nice but majority of bar & restaurant staff seemed like they had not been given sufficient training, if any at all. There were just small issues but LOTS of them

Olive scored 5 / 5 on 16/02/2023

Fantastic hotel. Very spacious rooms, stunning views and really nice breakfast. Will stay again definitely.

Mcgrath scored 4 / 5 on 01/12/2022

Great location. Fabulous decor. Spotlessly clean. The friendliest staff. Nice bar. But the restaurant is really part of the bar with a waist high wall dividing the two. So you feel as if you are still in the bar which realistically of course you are. But they charge top restaurant prices which is a bit cheeky. Also very meaty menu. Not much veg with the meals. Although I am a meat eater, I love veg. Breakfast was excellent. That said I would go back. But maybe eat in town.

John scored 3 / 5 on 11/10/2022

Overall satisfactory. Very good breakfast but food in the Bar was disappointing. Fish had way too much batter and chips weren't great.Good shuttle service into town but 15euro's to get Taxi back out .

There was no shuttle service to Kinsale which added €30 to our stay. The bar service was diabolical and was unattended many times. Breakfast was mediocre. The air conditioning didn't work even though we informed reception. The room was excellent but very stuffy.

Lovely night away everything great, hotel, food, leisure centre, would recommend this hotel to anyone.we did ask for a room that was not an adjoining one on a higher floor, but unfortunately we did not get it ,so I will not be returning to this hotel, as I was not granted my choice of room or floor.we have had bad experiences of adjoining rooms in the past and was no better this time.if hotels do not have a room that is not adjoining one they should notified guests in advance .

Laura scored 5 / 5 on 19/03/2022

I love this hotel. The views, staff and facilities were all superb. It was a night away for myself and my partner and we brought our toddler too which the hotel provided us with a cot without hesitation. So all in all we had our first mini getaway as a family and it was just lovely.

Christy scored 5 / 5 on 13/09/2021

Lovely hotel and the grounds are fantastic. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble special thanks to Ronan and his team for making our stay exceptional. We dined in the restaurant and the food was excellent and service efficient. It can be a little draughty for the older ones in the party as doors are left opened for ventilation due to covid but it was still pleasant. I can confidently say the breakfast is one of the best I have had in a hotel during covid, quality food. Swimming and spa great facilities and although covid restrictions are in place it in no way impacts in the enjoyment of the facility. I have to say well done to Ronan and the team at Kinsale Spa Hotel we will be back again next year, it has now become an annual trip to the hotel to celebrate the MILs birthday 93 years young.

The hotel has the best view of any I have stayed in and is surrounded by amazing walks and the food capital of Ireland.

Teresa scored 4 / 5 on 29/09/2020

I booked the hotel through Irish Mini Breaks because when I rang the hotel direct they wouldn’t do me a deal on 5 rooms! Quick and easy check in and we had pre booked breakfast for 10, they sat us four and six in the restaurant as per Government guidelines, good selection of food for breakfast and the waitress came back with tea and toast a few times, the hot food from the buffet could have been hotter, but we enjoyed the break away. The weather was fab and the surroundings are beautiful.

The Kinsale Hotel and Spa have all the covid-19 requirements in place to ensure all guests and visitors are safe yet able to enjoy their stay with as little inconvenience as possible, yes there is little things they cold do better ie clean down chairs when guest vacate, take salt and pepper off tables (replace with sachets), leave as many doors open as possible to stop guests having to open them with their hands, in saying that hey have plenty of sanitiser placed around the hotel. We stayed for five days and enjoyed our stay only down side is no house keeping (we were told if we gave 24 hours notice we could have house keeping at check in), main thing you miss with no house keeping is change of towels and loo rolls which could be placed in a laundry bag and hung on door after second. With the present climate breakfast settings have to be booked, they have a semi buffet in place and food is good. Very enjoyable stay and a big thanks to all the staff working in these stressful times

Carol scored 3 / 5 on 10/09/2020

Deirdre scored 5 / 5 on 19/08/2020

Beautiful hotel set in stunning, scenic grounds. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, especially the receptionist who dealt with one minor booking issue in a very professional manner. The pool is so nice, we had to book in due to covid but there were plenty of time slots available. The single beds in our twin room were huge and so comfy. The hotel was very clean and I felt they dealt well with covid issues. Only fault I had was i had the worst espresso martini ever - not sure they even put any alcohol in it :( Apart from that little flaw we would definitely stay again although it's not really walking distance of the town.

Claire scored 4 / 5 on 17/08/2020

Very friendly Extremely helpful Request a room with a view Food fabulous

Katie scored 3 / 5 on 08/08/2020

It was lovely and staff great and very good on covid measures . There was problem With room though and leaking . I reported it . The hotel Took prompt action but the problem persisted . I would like to get a partial refund . I would go back but feel I should be refunded as it was quite expensive . Also I think They should consider including one dinner with the price . The menu could be improved .

Had lovely time at the MacDonald, amazing view from our room. Room was very clean a bit tight for 3 beds but we were comfortable. Enjoyed the pool and spa facilities. Breakfast was 5 star. If we can we will return to the MacDonald. Kinsale is a lovely little neighbouring village to visit and Charles Fort was interesting.

This is a very nice hotel located a few miles outside the town of Kinsale. The room was very nice, the hotel gardens and the leisure centre were very pleasant. The food in the restaurant was good however the staff in the restaurant though efficient could have been more welcoming, friendlier-there was no sense that they enjoyed their job. The bar area was very quiet with no entertainment provided other than the television. We stayed over October Bank holiday weekend. There was a jazz festival in Kinsale town over the weekend but nothing on in the Mac Donald hotel in the evenings. A bit of entertainment would be nice and would encourage visitors to stay in and spend some money in the hotel in the evenings.

We booked a last minute break to the Macdonald Kinsale hotel over the October bank holiday weekend and really enjoyed our stay, as we have on previous stays there. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very nice whether you opt for a bay or garden view. The views and grounds around the hotel are lovely. We really enjoyed the pool and steam room also. There were just a few small negative things: the breakfast could have been hotter and they no longer provide the shuttle bus service which means a taxi fare of approx. €12 into Kinsale However we would definitely stay there again.

Stayed Friday 28th October 2016 for one night. Check in was efficient with smiling receptionist Katie room was lovely with view of bay and a comfy bed and pillows. Next stop was dinner in restaurant 2 course on our deal. Ordered one starter two mains and one dessert. Chowder starter was fine and tasty, two mains were way below standard, my wife who never complains even when its bad felt she had to say something. Her rib eye steak was more than 50% fat and was far from well done as ordered, my lamb was also very fatty I would think it was neck of lamb and could have been cooked more. Redenko the waiter did everything he could to satisfy us but said "the food should not have come out like that" he was totally embarrassed by the inadequacies of the kitchen staff. Kristian, Redenko and the young lady on duty continually asked were we now ok and we were offered one complimentary dessert and coffees to try and make amends. Having finished what we could of our meal we left, I felt that if I could have just got sick I may have felt better, did not eat much on Saturday as a result of how I felt ( no drink involved). We stayed in this hotel last year but did not eat. It is a lovely hotel in a lovely location but who ever Macdonald is, he needs to tighten up the kitchen staff and improve there performance. Given our experience of this hotel I will continue to remember it as one of the worst meals I have eaten world wide and will advise would be guests to stay but do not eat here. There are lots of nice restaurants in Kinsale. Leo Reddy Athlone.

I can't review the hotel because when I arrived to the hotel after booking with Today FM breaks, the hotel did not have my booking! ! They took the non-refundable deposit though. I will never book with Today FM breaks again and obviously would not recommend them to anyone else. I had my two young children with me. It was so disappointing.

Tod scored 2 / 5 on 09/04/2015

I had the opportunity to visit this hotel for 2 nights and whilst we enjoyed our break away I do feel the need to point out some areas of improvement with this hotel. For the purposes of this review we were a family of four, 2 adults & 2 toddlers The Pros: > We were accommodated in a family room for both nights overlooking Oysterhaven bay. > The hotel is modern and generally clean throughout. > Great pool, health suite and gym – all of which were used. > The weather was fantastic (not sure if the hotel can take credit for this but the breath-taking view from the balcony were spectacular) The Cons: > Upon checkin we were never informed about breakfast times, pool times, if we needed to make a booking for the restaurant (because it gets very busy) – all of which I overlooked myself during checkin > The room itself – the bins were not emptied and we found sweet wrappers between the beds and on the window cills > The beds themselves were really uncomfortable, we woke up each morning with aching backs – I would recommend changing the mattresses on these. > The restaurant: I have a few issues here but my biggest complaint is that they were so slow in bringing out the baby bowls, no exaggeration but it took 35 minutes for them to come out (mash and carrots?) It appears they take orders in a FIFO serial fashion and there no consideration to move starters (soup) or even baby bowls out all of which should already be ready to server. The manager brought our mains out and on requesting some ketchup a near empty bottle of ketchup ( 99% empty) was slapped on the table. Yes they were busy on the 2nd night but that’s no excuse for this attitude. I could go on about how I had to chase the waiter for stuff such as menus, drinks, refils, updates on the food order and a lot more but I think you get the jist. Now it must be said we did enjoy our break away and the hotel was not all doom and gloom, far from it. This was also not our first time here (all other stays were all 5/5), the problem is that the hotel just did not live up to our expectations this time around. All of which can easily be rectified with a bit of training (and replacing those matresses!).

We stayed at the Carlton recently and were very pleased with our stay. The staff were very pleasant. The food was excellent. Great value for the price. Was disappointed with the room. For a 5 star rating it was not up to scratch. I did ask for a different room but without success. The hotel was not even full..... It was a pleasant stay but I would not rate it as 5 star. 3 Star in my opinion

Four of us stayed for three nights from 20th October. we found the Carlton an excellent hotel with clean rooms and delicious food. All of the staff we had dealings with were a credit to your hotel. The only down point was the light (or lack of it) in my bathroom in room 211. We all would look forward to a return visit in the future. All in all first class David Jamison

Mary scored 4 / 5 on 12/07/2014

Enjoyed my stay in the Carlton Hotel Kinsale, the hotel is situated in a beautiful location, the bedrooms are very comfortable, with air conditioning which was very welcome as the weather was very warm during my visit. The reception staff were very welcoming, friendly and efficient. The only downside of my stay was the very poor service for food at the bar. As I was on a llidl break, and evening meal was included in the package, we were informed that our evening meal was available in the bar, otherwise we would be given an allowance towards an evening meal for the restaurant, should we decide to eat in the restaurant. I really feel the the hotel should have given all guests the courtesy of using the restaurant, and have a different menu option available for package guests. We really felt like second class guests, as the bar is quite dark, with two televisions blaring out football during our meal, and to add to that, the service in the bar, for food is atrocious. There were not enough staff on duty to cater for the workload that they had to carry out, we were waiting 50 minutes for any service, with the staff nearly running to keep up with the the food orders and serving of the food. Eventually in frustration I approached a waiter that was serving in the restaurant, he was very helpful and friendly, (he had worked on board cruise ships in the past), he was very efficient, and the hotel is very lucky to have him as an employee. When the meal arrived all three of us were delighted with our meals, which were beautifully presented, and were of an excellent standard. Overall the Carlton Hotel in Kinsale have excellent staff, lovely bedrooms, excellent food, however the management need to look at their staffing levels which are letting the hotel down..

Stayed here on a recent work night away. Hotel receptionist was extremely welcoming and pleasant. My room was lovely suited me perfect for what I needed. Location very nice and hotel clean and modern. Only draw back bar on other level felt this could be better located and would get more business from staying guests if situated in the main foyer reception area other than that nice hotel and great value.

Noel scored 2 / 5 on 29/06/2014

On arrival we received a cold and clinical welcome. The receptionist was just short of saying "computer says no". When I asked for a nice room with a view I was informed that a room with a view of the bay would cost an extra €30 per night. This I paid as the alternative was a view of the car park and we were on our holidays. The room itself was a decent size but needed a good dust and a proper clean. Under one bed was an old orange and under the other was a babies soother. There were two small towels for four of us and the keys did not work. Both of these issues were resolved quickly. When we had settled in we decided to go to the bar/restaurant for a coffee etc. The place wasn't busy but it took twenty minutes from the time we ordered to the time we received our coffee. This was because chatting to each other was more important than serving customers. The tables, seats and floor were all neglected and needed to be cleaned after their previous occupants. The restaurant one the first night was a little chaotic with a distinct lack of managerial presence, for instance we had two different staff take our dinner order , one started and got distracted so another came to continue to take it. When asked for the A La Carte menu we were given one between two of us and finding egg on the cutlery makes the star rating of this hotel highly questionable. However the food was faultless. Breakfast on two of three mornings in the hotel was like a scene from Fawlty Towers, nobody seemed to know how to deal with a breakfast room in a busy hotel. The service was quite frankly non-existent with staff flapping about, sharing the one cloth to clean all tables (passing it from one staff member to the next) and all the while leaving the hot counter with queues of guests waiting to be served. On day two both of our keys failed to work. This in itself was not an issue. The lecture I received from the receptionist on where to keep the key was. When I returned a short while later with the same problem the receptionist gave me another lecture - with no apology or even hint of politeness. On the final morning of our stay we arrived in a different breakfast room, we were greeted and the children were informed they were welcome to order from a separate menu and nothing was an issue. The restaurant was calm, efficient and extremely friendly. It was the first time that we felt like valued customers. The leisure centre and its staff were excellent. The organised mini bus to the town is a great service. This hotel has many positives including location, facilities and good food, however valuing its guests all of the time should be paramount. Guests should never feel that they are an inconvenience to staff who are on the phone, computer or who are chatting amongst themselves.

Nessa scored 1 / 5 on 23/06/2014

Stayed 3 nights in a room that was more like a sauna than a bedroom, the air conditioning did not work. Ask each day for something to be done was told that someone would be sent to the room to rectify the matter but no one ever appeared. Staff were less than helpful. Breakfast was poor . Have stayed in hotels with a lower rating but far higher standers than this hotel. Will not be going back. So glad I didn't pay full price.

Echo59 scored 2 / 5 on 17/06/2014

The hotel looked lovely as we arrived. We had to wait 10 minutes for check-in while the receptionist dealt with 2 phone calls. The room was an OK size. We'd asked for a cot for our infant but were given a camp bed instead. This was quickly rectified but the mattress on the cot was badly stained and should be discarded. The room we were in smelt like an old nursing home. The staff were nice. The pool in the leisure centre was under heated, most likely to save money. There were 3 high chairs in the bar/restaurant but only 2 table tops for these chairs. The chairs had no straps, despite having a sign on the chair warning us to strap our child in. The hotel does not deserve a 4-star rating and it is obvious that absolutely no money is being invested in running the hotel.

Four of us had a lovely overnight break here Thursday 30th January. It was a relaxing stay, staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. While the two course meal in the bar area is restricted choice wise there is the option to upgrade to the restaurant ( extra cost). As there was a childrens' swimming lesson in progress on Thursday evening, we postponed our visit to the leisure centre until Friday morning but enjoyed ourselves hugely there. We then had a very substantial breakfast with plenty of choice so who could possibly complain for €49?

We thoroughly enjoyed our bargain break at the Carlton Hotel and would definitely return. The pool was full of kids in the afternoon (Thursday ) so we waited until the morning... gorgeous pool, loads of jets and excellent Jacuzzi. Very helpful guy at Pool reception, very welcoming and informative. The meal on Thursday night was really fab, I had a blue cheese and roasted butternut starter followed by a scrumptious salmon and Mussel bake with yummy savoury crumble topping. I had glass of a South African House red which was perfect. We were to full for dessert but the choices were extremely tempting. The rooms were so comfy and immaculately clean. What a fabulous bargain! We have been telling everyone about it since!

A decent hotel, the room and bathroom were a good size. The breakfast buffet and also the bar food served in the evening were good. Found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Had an issue connecting to the internet for the first 24 hours of our stay but this was eventually resolved. Also found the driveway into the hotel to be a bit difficult. The shuttle bus into Kinsale was helpful but was surprised that there was a charge of 3 euro per person each way. The view from the front of the hotel was fantastic, and although we didn't get to take a walk-the grounds looked lovely.

Had a fabulous two night stay at the Carlton Kinsale. Even though we were on a today fm break, we still got a room with a sea view which was lovely. Breakfast was lovely with a great selection. I did find the dinner menu very limited, we stayed at the carlton in June on the same deal and the dinner menu was much better with a greater variety of meals, some available with added supplements like there steak speciality but this was not available in September. The main advantage this hotel has though is there staff, every member goes above and beyond there job to make your stay extra special. We used both the leisure and spa facilities and both are lovely. We enjoyed our stay so much again, that we have booked to return the beginning of December.

we stayed here for two nights in late August and we found the Hotel to be very nice - if a little bit outside Kinsale - I would say perhaps two miles. The room and the general areas were lovely but unfortunately the breakfast was not really up to "scratch". The bacon, sausages etc seemed to have been cooked a long time before we got there and were hard and difficult to cut - also eggs had been bried and just left to harden in the hot dish. Otherwise everything was good. I & D.

My wife and I stayed two nights (Friday & Saturday) and really enjoyed the stay. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful and this was our experience throughout the two days. Our room was clean and tidy as was the hotel premises overall and the dinner we ate on the Friday evening was very good. There were a couple of small things which, although not enough to spoil the experience, were irritating just the same: It was extremely difficult to flush the toilet in our room. A considerable amount of pressure had to be applied to the button to make it work and, even then, the button had to be fully held down for quite a while. Given the fact that our room, and especially the bathroom was specifically designed to accommodate those with physical disabilities, I would expect all conveniences to be simple to operate. If I found it difficult, despite being able bodied, I am not sure how those less fortunate would cope. Regrettably, my wife and I are both smokers and regularly found ourselves on the terrace area adjoining the restaurant and bar. During our stay there were never any ashtrays to stub out our cigarettes. To avoid littering the ground, this resulted in us disposing of our used cigarettes in the large plant pot on the terrace. Judging by the number of butts previously discarded by others, ashtrays are always a scarce commodity here. The negative comments above were far outweighed by the good points the hotel has to offer. We would certainly consider staying again in the future and will be happy to recommend the hotel to our friends and family.

We had a beautiful dinner in the restaurant, presentation of dishes was like fine dining and all delicious. The service was excellent and our waitress was friendly and helpful. Kinsale town is close by just a short drive and lovely for a browse around the shops. There are fantastic scenic walks nearby also. Overall a great place for a break away. We would definitely recommend The Carlton Kinsale to friends & family!

The hotel is in a lovely location but it should be noted that this means that there is no phone coverage for the following networks- vodafone, O2 or Meteor. I went away with my sisters and my mum and none of us were able to check in with home. The rooms were clean and comfortable for the most part. They were very cold when we first arrived and it did take a while for them to heat up. The food at dinner was fantastic. There were eight of us and between us we tried most things on the menu and we were all impressed. Breakfast was very good too but was very slow every morning. It was understaffed and we had to ask for items several times before they arrived. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't to bad but an hour between sitting down and getting a hot breakfast was quite long. The swimming pool was well taken care of and clean. However they run swimming lessons there so most of the pool was taken up with these. The part that wasn't being used for lessons was full of different spa type things which were nice but meant that there was a long wall randomly half way up the pool that you couldn't see above the water so several people swam straight into it.

I stayed for one night in the Carlton Hotel recently. Room and bathroom were lovely..Staff were very friendly..Grounds are beautiful. However the food was not that of a four star hotel. Our two course dinner was very very bland pub grub..In fact it was far below the standard of pubs. The breakfast was worse..The beans had a crust and the scrambled egg resembled cubes of jelly..I could go on but I won't. On a positive note the cold buffet was nice and tasty. Would I return to the Carlton Kinsale?..NO When I go away for a night I look forward to eating out and going down for breakfast in the mourning. I did not enjoy my dining experience in the Carlton. i was impressed by the general cleaness of the hotel, the stuff were friendly and helpful enough BUT a few things i disliked 1 long queue for breakfast 2 i asked for vegetarian option at breakfast which the didn't have and same spoons are used for sausages, beacon, eggs etc so for a vegan you really have no choice at breakfast besides fruit salad and pasteries. 3 it will be a good idea to have a couple biscuits in the room for the tea or coffee.

Pros: The Hotel was very nice and comfortable rooms, evening dinner was very good and good choice, lovely views from hotel all that is wanted is the weather to enjoy the large decking area with awsome views of the bay. Spa was lovely and a good range of treatements available. Lesiure centre very good also Cons: A bit far away from the town approx 3/4 miles while the hotel runs a shuttle bus this is only in the evenings from 5pm (€3 per person each way). The Bar was uninspiring and seems to have been an afterthought stuck in a corner with no character. We stayed in peak season and there was no entertainment in the hotel. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss food cold and not a great range especially for a vegetarian, no choice of cheeses only fruit and yogurt While we enjoyed the stay again I would prefer to be nearer the town, the only option if you want to leave the car and go to town is to walk or else get a taxi which cost between €10 and €12 (we paid €10 to the taxi ordered by the hotel and we paid €12 for a taxi from town and this was in the middle of the day) Gerry and Maura

Lovely Hotel - but a bit out of the way - Hotel advertise a Courtesy bus but you had to pay €3 each. Reception Staff were not great - we were not told when breakfast was etc just given our key and we booked our Dinner with Reception and when we went down to the Resturant we had no reservation. One of the Managers in the Resturant was shouting orders all the time to his staff and not digging in when they were so underpressure - when we asked for water you were just given a glass and no jug which put the staff under even more pressure as they had to keep coming back to refil - Breakfast was very hectic and some people found it hard to get tables etc. Only for the Leisure Centre which was excellent and staff were very friendly and helpful I would not rate this hotel 4 star. The bar was very dull and had only a few table and lack atmosphere. Table etc in Reception lobby and on the terreces were always dirty. I deal with the Carlton at the Dublin Airport which is only a 3 star hotel which is an excellent hotel and was really expecting a lot more from their Jewel in their Crown.

Having booked this holiday back in late june and having received an email confirmation back then I did not expect any problems upon arrival a month later. My original booking was for two nights beginning on the 24th July. When I arrived on this date following a long drive I was informed by reception that the hotel was fully booked and that they had no record of my booking. The manager on duty at the time was helpful in securing alternative accommodation in a local B&B. We were informed that there would be a room available the following day. Upon our return to the hotel the following afternoon I enquired at reception as to when my room would be ready and was told that it would be available shortly. Approximately an hour and a half later I returned to reception to be told that there was a problem in coding the keys to our room and that I would have to be accompanied to my room by a member of staff with a master key and also this would need to be done on any subsequent entry to my room until the problem was rectified. Also not having a set of keys, I was forced to use my own work identification card so as to use any electricity outlets in the room. I eventually received my own keys to my room at around 7pm once I enquired once again at reception. What was supposed to be a relaxing break away was overly stressful, inconvenient and disappointing. The hotel itself was immaculate and staff friendly and I appreciate the complimentary upgrade to sea view room for my second night stay but I must say that I found it quite distasteful that I was charged in full/ 2 nights for my stay despite not having stayed in the hotel two nights.

Hotel was nice and so was the room and the suttle bus was very handy into the centre of Kinsale the views from the hotel are great. However the service was not up to standard. On 1st day had to wait 3/4 of an hour in the bar for a sandwich there was only a few people in the bar but the table were dirty and the floor dirty on the only clean table we choose to sit at. On day two there was line for the breakfast again there was a lot of dirty tables and we were seated at high stools in the bar area. There were no plates or bowls with the fruit or glasses with the juice and you had to toast your own bread in a slow toaster. We stayed three nights on the second night our room was cleaned but we had no bath towels and had to call down to get them. We used the spa and had a lovely peat back and head massage and a sweedish head and back massage one treatment was paid for at time of treatment however I had another 15 minute delay waiting for massage as the threapists were busy with a wedding party. I was charged for someone elses spa treatememts when I went to settle my bill at the end of the break.

We stayed two nights at the Carlton and found it excellent in every way. The restaurant staff were very helpful, we both have dietary restrictions and and they and the chef did everthing to accommodate us. The leisure centre was very good and we used the pool and gym on both mornings. We would recommend the Carlton Hotel without hesitation and hope to pay another visit next time we are in West Cork.

Spent a lovely few days at this hotel. Food good, service good, friendly staff. Newspaper in reception each day. Good leisure facilities. A few criticisms - we stayed on the 3rd floor and the heat was unbearable, even with the air conditioning turned up full blast to the coldest temperature. Another thing was that I understood from the information on the website that ALL rooms had a view of Oysterhaven Bay but there was a charge of €30 per night for a room with a view of the bay. Finally, the bed linen didn't really look that clean - it was white and there were no stains or anything, but it did look quite crumpled. Other than that, we had a great time and explored a good bit of the area. One of the best things we did was to visit the Michael Collins museum in Killbrittain.

We had a luvely midweek break recently at Carlton Kinsale, my husband, daughter, son in law and grandchild. We had a fantastic view of the water, which was very nice and complimentary upgrade. Leisure Centre an staff were better than i have seen in many other Hotels around Ireland, it was first class. In other parts of Hotel i would say not enough staff, we had drinks on patio and that night our glasses were still standing on table. Breakfast is not up to standard, no Muslie, a toaster that is from stone age, and is so slow. A long wait for tea, an window facing out on georgeous view Dirty. Last day we said we would look at bar menu when i asked waitress could i have menu I could be still standing waiting, we went into Kinsale instead. A Manager of some sorts appeared on last day an loudly rearanged furniture in lobby area, when people were trying to relax an read, an next morning same thing in dining room, and ordering staff around who were already under presure. We had a great time, but it could be a fantastic Hotel as location is fantastic, but needs attention to detail and good example from management. star rating 4

My husband and I had a very enjoyable two night stay at the Carlton. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was great with a good choice. Leisure centre lovely and again staff were very helpful. However I would have one or two negative observations about the place, we stayed on the ground floor and while the room was fine, the corridor could do with a fresh coat of paint. Also, the bar had no atmosphere and the bar staff appeared to be attending in the restaurant as well as the bar. drinks were a bit pricey. Overall our stay was very enjoyable and we would consider a revisit. Kinsale is a lovely place and this hotel is in an ideal location. Mary.

Actually we were very disappointed with this hotel. It is described as "the jewel in the crown " of the Carlton Group but in fact we found to be very grubby, shabby and poorly managed. It does not live up to the 4 star reputation - much greater effort should be made to the general up keep of the hotel epically the bedrooms. Our room was covered with scuff marks all over the walls, loose cables, battered furnature , dirty cups and spoons. We ordered room service, it was brought down on a broken tray with a large chip that could do some serious damage to you. Mananagement really need to pick up the pace. Really very poor standard for a really well positioned hotel in a beautiful setting with a seemingly a great reputation??

My friend and I had a lovely stay at the Carlton. On arrival we were upgraded to a house due to some fault in our room, the house was very nice. The views and the setting are absolutely gorgeous and we found the shuttle bus a great facility. I would have one or two negative observations about the place however it is a pity to see the little attention to detail lacking i.e. the whole place could do with fresh paint and just little things in how the beds were made etc., also the bar staff did not know how to make a baileys coffee it was served like an ordinary coffee in a white cup rather than in a glass with cream...little things can matter a great deal. Overall our stay was very positive we really enjoyed it and would come back but please don't neglect the place so much...give it some tlc....because it has huge potential....

Got a great deal for this hotel on lidlebreaks, I was here two weeks earlier on a hen weekend, so was looking forward to returning with my hubby and baby. We checked in early, and the rooms were not ready, as they were full booked the night before due to a large wedding, but we didnt mind, as headed into kinsale for lunch and a wlak around, but my baby was very tired and just need to get a sleep, so went back to the hotel m the rooms were still not ready, but the reception staff were very helpful, and put a note to speed up our room, and also were in touch with us regularly to let us know how much longer it would be. The room was lovely, amazing views over the water/fields, lovely bathrooms, clean and spacious, unfortunaly my toddler wasnt having any afternoon naps, as she was so excited to be out and about, so she did start to get very cranky!! We took her for a spin in the car and went back to kinsale for a sundowner, its a short drive, and nice to away from the hustle and bustle of kinsale town, but it is such a great little place, with amaixing pubs, restaurants and quaint shops- i would love to live there! Had a late dinner booking due to tour groups taking over the early sittings, so the baby was not the best dinner guest at that stage of the night, but the food was fabulous, I had the Cod, and the hubby had the steak, Yum yum yum! Headed to bed, the baby was wired at this stage, and she just wouldnt settle, felt sorry for my neighouring rooms, but eventually she fell asleep - Bliss! Had lovely breafast the next day, and then enjoyed a great time in the pool/jacuzzi etc - that was wonderful,. All in all a great stay - except for my cranky, teething little toddler, who will be staying with the grandparents the next time, as much as we love her! I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

I regret to write that our stay in the Carlton hotel Kinsale was most disappointing! We arrived for check in at 15.10 after a two hour drive to be informed that our room was not ready. We had a 19 month old baby with us who we needed to settle and as i am over 8 months pregnant, really looked forward to a lie down. We received 2 cups of cold black coffee for the delay in our room even though we asked for a latte and cappucino.Nobody bothered to inform us that the coffee machine was broken and that would black coffees be acceptable. After 3 more trips to the reception desk to ask yet again if our room was ready,no was the reply and it would be at least another 20 mins!!!!!!! This is one hour 20 mins later so i asked to speak with management and finally we were taken to a room which did not have a travel cot for baby which we requested on making our reservation last March, this then had to be organised for us. So over all we were most disappointed as you can appreciate.

Great hotel in spectacular setting. Service from staff was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was very good with reasonable choice and plenty to eat. Rooms were good sized and well proportioned. The leisure centre looked great but we did not use it. A lovely hotel to go to and relax with the pretty town of Kinsale a few minutes by car and Charles Fort a twenty minute walk away. There is a bus service between Kinsale and the hotel after 5.30pm. Excellent value for money. I would highly recommend it.

I had a very enjoyable stay in The Carlton Kinsale. The leisure centre is lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a 3 course meal which was very nice. Again the service was good and very friendly staff. They supply a shuttle service into town and back for €3pp each way. Breakfast was a little disorganised. We were sitting for breakfast a half hour before the end and they had run out of a few things. But all in all we had a very enjoyable stay and great value for money as part of the Lidl Break.

We had an excellent weekend (B&B) at the Carlton Kinsale. It is a beautiful hotel in a fabulous location. It's a bit out of town but all the better for it - with views, peace, quiet and a regular shuttle bus into town. The double beds are a bit small - but everything else was great. Lovely leisure centre too. Didn't get as far as the Spa. Next time!

stayed at the Carlton kin sale for 2 nights at the weekend, and I was very disappointed.our room was cold, very poor reception on tv, no towels in leisure centre for a swim & breakfast food not very good. I must say it's an awful pity that cutting corners like this can destroy what could be a beautiful hotel. The hotel it's self is lovely bright modern hotel on a stunning site over looking cross haven bay. Staff were nice too thou. Might go there again if they got their act together.

We recently stayed at the Carlton Kinsale for a well deserved break from our busy family, the hotel is about 5km from Kinsale itself but the hotel runs a shuttle from 5 in the evening every half hour and back again latest 1.15,which is great cause it allows you to go in for something to eat or drink whenever suits without taking your car .it costs 3 euro a head,a booked taxi is 10 euro during the day.The hotel was clean and well kept although the surroundings quite beautiful and natural some of the garden areas needed a little attention. The website for hotel makes it look a lot bigger than it is but that is a plus its very cosy, the bar is small and quiet and overall a relaxed feeling. The food in the hotel was great ,absolutely great quality and flavor, even the buffet breakfast fresher and tastier than most hotels. The staff were helpful and friendly, service at breakfast a little slow but you didnt feel rushed or annoyed by that..We didnt use leisure facilities as we were on a break without our kids and as it was saturday morning there were alot of kids in pool so we took a walk around gardens instead, the veiws are breath taking. Our room was 117 on ground floor overlooking veiw however the uattended shrubbery blocked it,rooms on second and third floor would have best veiws... Overall the hotel was great and ideal for a restful break with plenty of peace and quiet and lovely food..

Stayed here with my boyfriend on a sunday night. We got a room designed for desabled person, which was really dark and water sprayed all over the bathroom floor when taking a shower. The remote control for the TV didn't work.We asked for another but also did not work with the Tv. We had a meal in the restaurant and we were waiting almost 25 before someone came to take our order even though the resaurant was not very busy. The food was very tasty though when we got it. Would not reccommend it as a 4star hotel.

Gave my sister a 2 night BB with 1 evening meal as a xmas present and the feed back from her was that the hotel itself was very nice and everything was grand and they booked there evening meal for the Saturday night and that is where her problems started. She booked a table for 8.30pm but had to wait until a little after 10pm to get a table this meant that a appointment they had in town to meet friends had to be put off and eventually cancelled. Then to add insult to injury the fire alarm was set off a number of times between 1am and 4.30am. The hotel advertise join us for a relaxing few days, she definitely was not relaxed when she got home and it is now 4 days since her stay and no contact has been made from the hotel, which speak volumes about there customer care, would not recommend this hotel , 4 STAR HOTEL I DON'T THINK SO.

I have to give credit also to the 2 mini bus drivers, they were the best tourist advisors ever, right down to who was play in what bar.. excellent recommendations from them both! The bed rooms were a really good size, as were the beads.. and so comfy, the shower was also pretty amazing. I would stay in the hotel again in a heart beat.

Large, modern hotel in a fabulous setting. Restaurant and food, good. Fabulous leisure centre. Staff friendly and courteous. Hotel seems to be short of houskeeping staff. Our bedroom was in need of a makeover; In common with much of the hotel area it was was poorly lighted, the desk area was much too dark to use and I was told on enquiry that a desk lamp was not available, I was given a decorative table lamp that gave off little light, it was useless. In my opinion this hotel is not worthy of a four star rating, I have stayed in better hotels that had only two stars. I would have expected to find as good if not a better bedroom in a B&B. This hotel gave the impression of one that is struggling to survive, with survival taking precedence over housekeeping and maintenance. The foregoing comments are based on what we would expect of a four star hotel. The shortcoming did not really affect us and we very much enjoyed our stay there despite them. We stll think that it was a great value offer, many thanks.

My wife and I visited the Carlton Hotel Kinsale on a Dinner B & B basis on the 15th and 16th February. It cost €196 all in. It was my wife's birthday on the 16th. The family organised an excellent bottle of champagne for the night of the 16th and it duly arrived in our room on the dot. We were upgraded when we arrived and the room was a mini-suite with a good seating area and excellent bed and bathroom facilities. For the price it was superb. The meals were excellent particularly the dinner and we went away wondering how they could provide such an excellent quality experience for such a modest amount. We certainly would be back at these prices and high quality. Highly recommended.

It wasnt what I expected. The rooms were just ok. It was clean but i had booked a double room on the website and when we arrived sometime after 3pm we had to wait for a room to become available. Then when we were given our room we were told that it was laid out as a twin so they had to put the beds together as a double even though i did book a double. When I went into the Carlton Hotel Kinsale website there were twin rooms and double rooms. the twin rooms were cheaper than the doubles and i feel we were put into one of them. Also the view was overlooking the Car Park and i was looking forward to a sea view. Other than that for the price we paid it was ok.

Recently visited Carlton in Kinsale and on arrival we were offered a free upgrade to an apartment as two inter-connecting rooms were not available which suited our family perfectly - three bedrooms, each ensuite so no teenage squabbles! Apartment smart and spacious with decking to rear bedroom facing open fields. Leisure centre a major plus, pool much better than other hotel pools and clean. Breakfast good although room for improvement, liimited cereal choice, no porridge and sometimes had to wait for plates, glasses to be renewed. Didn't use the restaurant nor the 'courtesy bus' which charges 3 euro each way into Kinsale. Superb location for hotel which could be exploited more if the hotel promoted the woodland walk from the hotel down to the sea, an excellent asset. All in all a very enjoyable stay and would recommend. Eileen

Myself and my partner stayed at the hotel for two nights and we really enjoyed ourselves. The idyllic location was beautiful and the surrounding area was lovely too. We had breakfast and two meals at the hotel and the food was to a really high standard. The staff were really pleasant and added to our stay. However, the standard of the showers in the leisure centre was not what we would have expected from the hotel. Also there were tea making facilities in the room but no provision of water!! Other than those little things, we really enjoyed the hotel and will definately be returning.

I received this break as a present as we have a small child and we were really looking forward to a lovely night. The Calton Kinsale is a beautiful hotel but the food standards really let it down. Our meal was only suitable as an ok Sunday lunch, the choice and quantity was sooo poor. The service was also really poor, as its not very nice to get your meal served by a girl with black chipped nail polish. Quantity was so bad with our main course we were given 3 baby potatoes 2 pieces of cauliflour and 6 strips of carrot between two people it was laughable. The following morning i ordered breakfast to the roon from 10 - 10.30 at 20 to 10 bang bang on the door. A girl stood and handed us our breakfast requesting €5.00 ( dont know what that was for) also got tea's & coffee wrong, no milk and the breakfast was frozen. She returned 10 minutes later with a gravy bowl which was chipped full of milk. At that stage we just left. I informed the manager of my issues and he was lovely and told me somebody would get back to me and this is now 4 days on and i have heard nothing. Overall this was a substandard experience and i wouldnt recommend it.

Stayed in The Carlton Hotel, Kinsale for two nights. It is genuinely a beautiful hotel and well worth a visit. The food was fab, the staff were all so lovely, helpful and friendly. The views are beautiful and it's only a short distance from Kinsale itself. If you fancy a great night out in Kinsale, a mini bus picks you up and drops you back to the hotel for a small fee of €3 per trip and the driver is full of local information and very friendly also. I would genuinely recommend the hotel and trip to anyone. Fab leisure facilities - never seen such a big stream room or sauna room. Well worth a trip!!!

We visited this hotel on a weekend break from 6th -8th January 2012. We found the hotel to be excellent and the staff to be very friendly (in particular an italian girl working at reception whose name escapes me - she very kindly recommended an excellent restaurant in Kinsale called Jim Edwards - we had already eaten in the hotel restaurant on the first night which was also very good but we wanted to eat in town on the second night). We used the leisure centre each day which was very well kept and clean with excellent facilities. I clocked the distance of the hotel from the centre of town at 3.3 miles in my car which is the distance as described by the hotel on their description on the website. The setting of the hotel is very nice so it is worth being out that little bit from town. There is a shuttle bus and the staff were very helpful in all respects. Highly recommend the hotel - tip "the Spaniard" pub on the way to town is excellent for bar lunch!! I am a lawyer based in Dublin.

We stayed one night on Dec 16th and we were a party of 4 women and one extra for dinner rounding it to five. I had expected four star standard but the hotel is far from that. The rooms are dated and shabby, the single beds are tiny the linen was clean the towels left a lot to be desired. The pool was great just like a swim in the sea and as cold. The staff in the dining room very far from helpfull all apart from one and he seem to be the supervisor needed a course in customer service. I do not eat meat and have many allergies so thought i was doing well ordering melon but it came with ham so i sent it back but out it came once again minus the meat, yuk it still had traces of it on the plate. I asked for an undressed salad but failed to get it so i left the entire bowl of salad untouched as i did with my main course but no one enquired why, could it have been we were on the "special menu" I guess you get what you pay for. The hotel lacked a "buzz" deadsville, the bar was empty so we went to our rooms for a coffee and a chat and a early night. Breakfast was not great i had understood it was served till 11 so got there about fifteen minutes before that to find the place being cleared juices were almost gone as was most other items I dont think i missed much as it was tinned fruit and kellogs etc I had some lovely white toasted bread that I had to beg the waitress for I dont drink tea or coffe so I managed to get some poor quaility grapefruit juice all in all a wonderfull start to my day of which the very best part was my early am swim again nice and cold followed by a quick get away through lovely landscaped grounds.........

Had a one night stay, arrived early for check-in and as the three rooms were not ready we were upgraded to a Garden Suite at no additional cost. Leisure centre very enjoyable, staff very helpful and friendly. Shuttle to Kinsale great and reasonable cost. Would definately stay there again.

Stayed at The Carlton Kinsale on a Lidl break 24th - 26th Nov 2011. Plus points - Price €140 for 2 persons 2 nights b+b, leisure facilities, shuttle bus Negative points - Room was not cleaned until 4.30pm on our 2nd day so we had to go and sit in the lobby for an hour and wait. Limited bar menu choices. A hair in my breakfast. A jobsworth swimming coach in the leisure centre who I seemed to be inconveniencing by swimming in the swimming lanes of all things, shock horror. Overall a very pleasant stay and yes I would recommend .

The hotel is set in a beautiful location between Kinsale & Oysterhaven. The grounds are very pretty with stunning views from the reception, the bar and restaurant. The rooms are of a high standard. There is great choice of food in their buffet breakfast .The dinner menu for Lidl breaks is quite restricted with a menu of three starter, mains and desserts.Whilst a limited menu the food was excellent. The staff were very helpful and polite. It is approximately 3 miles from Kinsale and 1.5 miles from Charles Fort and Summercove. There is a bus service between the hotel and Kinsale from 5.30pm on which we used to return from Kinsale in the evening. It is €3 each way. This hotel is excellent value for money and I would highly recommend it.

Hotel grounds view and setting were fantastic. Staff very friendly and helpful but I was disappointed with "free Internet" which is only free for 30 mins and then charged. Also rooms could do with a good dust and cabinets and doors etc cleaned, not up to 4 star standard. Overall a nIce stay and love Kinsale.

Very quiet therefore great sleep. Very uninspiring place. Lacked atmosphere. A distance out of town and take note that shuttle bus is not complementary but reasonably priced.. Very unhappy looking staff-particularly in the bar and restaurant apart from the head waiter on the night who seemed to be trying to make up for everyone else! Breakfast next morning was luke warm. Overall verdict? Wont be rushing back.

Recently returned from a 2night break here. It is a superb hotel in beautiful, private surroundings and a great place to relax. Check in, staff, our room etc were all first class and well deserving of its 4stars. However, the only negative would be that their main course menu is quite limited, particularly when guests are staying for more than 1 night. Three main courses is scarcely enough choice, especially when the option of paying a supplement was not offered. If a wider menu was offered this hotel would be almost 5 star quality.

We had a great time in a fabulous hotel and when combined with the fantastic Lidl deal it was just perfect!. Great view of the bay area from the breakfast/restaurant area. The room was nothing short of comfortable, clean, modern and spacious. There was plenty for breakfast and the food in the restaurant was sublime. The hotel was a little out of town but set in a lovely location and there was a handy shuttle into town and back again at €3 per person each way. We also enjoyed the spa and leisure facilities and both were perfect. Overall this was well worth the money for a great hotel and a fantastic relaxing weekend.

Stayed in the Carlton Hotel for 3 nights on a mid-week package in Oct'11 (Tue to Fri couple break away) Had a really nice stay. First impressions of the room was good, the bathroom was really clean but did not supply hygiene bags and the sea view was a perfect sight to wake up to each morning. Used the leisure centre - gym & pool facilities which were excellent. We also availed of the mini bus service into the town on the 2nd night (as we didn't know it exsisted) so this would be a good service the check in staff should mention to the guests upon arrival. Reception staff were some times hard to understand but their service was fine. The food was very good and we were offered an alternative menu on the 3rd night which we very happy about rather then chose from the same menu . The staff in the resturant and bar area were excellent, friendly, efficent and very polite. I would reccomend this hotel highly to anyone that wants a relaxing break away and to stay close to Kinsale. Would return again in the future

Just back from a two day stay in the Carlton in Kinsale. What can I say? A great hotel, bright, clean, welcoming with wonderful views and friendly staff. It's nicely off the beaten track but with a shuttle bus service you're only minutes from the lively town of kinsale. The food was mouthwatering and leisure facilities were top quality! It also had lovely gardens and an impressive reception area. We will definately be returning to this little gem in Co.Cork!!

Lovely lovely hotel. spectacular views from reception and restaurant. We had garden room- overlooked waterfall (and carpark) but hey- %u20AC35pppn??! A little out of town about 4k but we had car so no problem. Very friendly staff also. Room very comfortable and free wifi. Definitely will go back!

Wes scored 3 / 5 on 10/06/2011

The hotel is more 3 star than 4 star. It is still nice, but the rooms feel a little dated and underlit. The Lidl deal was pretty good but the hotel is about 6km out of the town, they will arrange a taxi but it is %u20AC3 per person, each way. Wifi in the hotel is a bit weird, you have to ask for the passwords and are entitled to 30mins per day - why they don't just have free wifi is beyond me. The breakfast was ok, again 3 star rather than 4, the fried grub was a little greasy. Check out is 11am but I talked nicely to the receptionist and she let us there till 12. Dinner was ok, they have a set menu with the package deal and it doesn't have much choice. The menu has 3 courses so be careful, the Lidl deal is for 2. Pass on the starter and go with dessert if just having 2. They have loads of bread and give a pre starter for free. Our stay wasn't the best as the fire alarm went off at 2.30am, someone was smoking in a room - but it woke the whole hotel up.

i did enjoy our night away, lovely surroundings...no kids with us!!! the hotel staff were very courteous and helpful. The bath in the room was cracked at the bottom and looked a bit unsightly, the adjuster for the shower head was broken and we had to shower holding it in our hand. I went to open the door to the press holding the tea/coffee facilities but the handle came off in my hand - certainly not what i expected from a 4 star hotel. We planned on having a quick swim and then go out to dinner that evening (we were only staying for the one night) but the swimming pool was closed for repairs or something, very disappointing. I wanted a luxury break, so therefore i choose the Carlton however the standard of the facilities was not to the highest of standards. A bit of a let down.

I work for an international hotel chain, and have stayed in a lot of hotels around the world, and the Carlton impressed me. The room was really nice, and the staff were really helpful ( I had a 3 year old, and 7 month old with me, and they were great with them). The pool was great for my 3 year old, and the hotel is set in such beautiful surroundings with a shuttle bus to Kinsale which is very close. Even though I only live about a half hour from the hotel it really felt like I had a break away.

The hotel is very lovely, in a very beautiful and tranquil setting. There is a shuttle bus in the evenings to take you into kinsale which is very helpful. We were slightly delayed on check in - but the staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming. The pool is fabulous; and really great fun for kids though I would have preferred it slightly warmer. The meal was nice and breakfast was excellent. Really enjoyed the stay and the value for money with the Lidl break is extremely good value.

This was my 2nd stay in the Carlton in Kinsale and I would highly recommend the hotel. The hotel is very comfortable and the rooms are spacious and very clean. The food at dinner was average but that may have been because expectations were so high. Having stayed at this hotel last year we had dinner and the food was excellent. Breakfast was very big and very tasty and the leisure centre was well equipped and is a nice bonus for an already very good hotel.

What a beautiful hotel, with fabulous views. We arrived to the hotel on the Friday afternoon and were greeted by Kim who was very pleasant and friendly. Bedroom was lovely, bright and modern, with brilliant views. Enjoyed meals both nights in the hotel restaurant with food that was fabulous. This hotel is perfect if you want to just get away from it all and relax. Overall, I could not fault the hotel, everything was perfect. We were only sorry we didn’t get to use the leisure facilities. Lidl Breaks is excellent value for money and I would not hesitate to book through them again. Will definitely be returning to the Carlton Kinsale, didn’t want to come home.

Noticed a lot of flies around hotel esp in bedrooms. Moved rooms no problem but next room had some dead flies behind the curtain must be an ongoing problem. Dinner in restaurant was super lovely room. All staff were really nice and pleasant to deal with. Fantastic stay for the price had facial and back massage and both were really enjoyable. Breakfast was outstanding also. Would recommend the Carlton and will be returning.

Absolutely fantastic hotel & leisure centre. Hotel is not within walking distance from Kinsale but there is a frequent shuttle bus that only costs %u20AC3 per person which will bring you wherever you want (town/Man Friday/Bullamn/...) & you can also arrange to be collected up to 11:15. We got upgraded to a suite on arrival at no extra cost. Room & service was great. Breakfast was very nice. I would definitely stay again & plan to in the near future.

This is an excellent hotel & superb value for money. There was a separate menu for the "Lidl Break" which was pretty good. The hotel is 7 Km from Kinsale - there is a shuttle bus to Kinsale but it finishes at 10.30 pm which is early for Irish guests. We would definitely recommend it - beautiful sea views.

Thought the hotel was quite lovely and everything was beautiful except that the bar, like a lot of new hotels, seemed to be "in the way " and not thought of as a proper room, only a drink dispensing area for the casual dining area between it and the main dining room, otherwise hotel is fab.
