I stayed in the Clonea Strand hotel with my husband for just one night in June. The location is great as it's right above a blue flag beach which was lovely for a short stroll and a swim in the sea. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet with a sea view and the food was good. There is also a very nice pool and leisure centre and as it stays open until 10 pm, we were able to make the most of our visit by going there after dinner and a stroll on the beach. Overall a very enjoyable visit.

Myself and my girlfriend recently spent a weekend in Dungarvan at the Clonea Strand hotel, which was a perfect weekend break, the hotel staff were very professional also very welcoming and pleasant, the hotel was really comfortable the room had a view of the beach and cliffs which was beautiful to get up to in the morning, the food was great I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel and staff, the facilities are great for families to, they have a pool, sauna and gym which has everything you need for a decent workout also a bowling alley, the location is right next to the beach literally 3 minute walk and you are there, my over all experience at this hotel was great I would definitely recommend staying here the location is beautiful I will almost definitely be going back.... :-)

We were a mixed bunch of ages and found the hotel fairly good for a three star hotel, the decoration was a bit outdated but apart from that we enjoyed our stay there very much.

positives about the Clonea Strand Hotel - bedroom was very clean, bed very comfortable and room very quiet at night. Tea and coffee making facilities were good and free toiletries were nice. Staff were very helpful and staff were also really helpful at the sister hotel. the location right on the beach was perfect for us and would be ideal for families. The take away and shop were reasonably priced. The beach is beautiful and very safe and has lifeguards, it's also a blue flag beach and perfect for children. The hotel is a little jaded but the price was commensurate with what we got. I will visit again and would happily pay a little more if the hotel was refurbished. In all I was very satisfied.

Brillant location on beach, also play loft for kids is very good. Hotel in need of a revamp but all in all well worth a visit and great value for families. Will definately be back again soon.

We stayed at the Clonea Strand Hotel in June 2012. We were a group of five Two grannies Mammy Auntie and Two year old. We had a lovely time. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Environment was excellent for a two year old. Play den was very useful when the weather was not very good. WE had to use the paddling pool at The Gold Coast Hotel where we were made really welcome. There was an excellent playground there also which we made full use of. The rooms and bathrooms are in need of updating but they are very spacious. We had two rooms beside each other which was excellent. Both breakfast an evening dinner were excellent and as a coeliac I felt I was catered for very well. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and we hope to return there soon for another short break.

Clonea strand hotel is ideal for a short break. I found the staff friendly and the the food was very good. I thought 10o'c was abit early to finish breakfast, the beach is a big asset to the hotel. Mary Andrews

I stayed in this hotel for one night with my boyfriend. The hotel location is excellent, the beach is just outside the front door and is very pretty. The rooms, however, are not as nice. They are small and the decor and furnishings are very dated. The bed was not too comfortable, which was disappointing. We enjoyed our dinner in the restaurant - there was a choice of about 4 entrees, one being vegetarian (pasta bake), which I appreciated. The dessert was also very tasty, and we were happy with breakfast in the morning as well. Overall, I think the hotel offers decent value for money, but I wouldn't recommend for a romantic getaway since the room was not very comfortable.

We checked into this hotel on Sunday the 20th May at 5.30pm and had checked out again by 6.00pm. The room was dirty and very outdated. Nothing like the website. I would not stay there or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Just a one night stay. Very pleased with the comfort and the friendliness of the staff. This is a really lovely part of the country.

Hi! We were meant to be staying at the above property but we were called to say all booking had been moved to The Gold Coast Hotel due to lack of bookings. At first this was ok, but when we got to Dungarvan we visited Clonea Beach, location of the hotel and some of the facilities were open so we were disappointed. W ewere told we would be upgraded to a Sea View Room as an apology, it turns out the majoirty of the rooms are seaview and this is without charge so we feel conned, n ot by Lidl but by the Hotel Group. That said we had a lovely stay in The Gold Coast, staff fab, BREAKFAST AMAZING THEY COULDNT DO ENOUGH FOR US, so the 4 stars are for them

Evelyn scored 3 / 5 on 16/08/2011

Location not great in relation to Dungarvan - very little to do in the area, no pubs, shops nearby. Hotel rooms in need of maintenance, doors didn't close properly to the main bedroom or bathroom, bed not very comfortable but overall rooms/towels/sheets were clean. Breakfast was chaos - seemed to be nobody in charge taking room numbers or allocating seating. No entertainment at night in the bar.

Andrew scored 4 / 5 on 12/06/2011

Great location. Hotel is old and generally ok but the bedrooms are in need of a face lift, menu was the same for the 2 nights, breakfast was excellent, staff were friendly and helpful. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will return - great value for money.

Jack scored 1 / 5 on 08/06/2011

Staff were friendly and helpful but very poorly trained - breakfast was esp disappointing compared to other similar hotels....not many healthy options, no herbal teas, very tale homemade brown bread that even birds might decline and it was a major achievement to get porridge which was served in tiny bowls. Hotel was a throwback to the 1960's when Ireland had a very bad reputation for customer service.....hotel has prob not been renovated since then judging by the decor, lighting and carpets. Most disappointing lidl break so far as they are generally excellent Suggestion could you try to get deals on some of the better quality 4 and 5 star hotels Thanks Jack F

Helen scored 5 / 5 on 08/06/2011

Found the hotel to be nice, bit dated decor....but the staff were very friendly & it was in a lovely location. Think the Steamroom & Sauna are far too hot - jacuzzi & pool were nice....yes i would stay there again as it was great value for money with the lidl breaks - thank you.

Madge scored 5 / 5 on 27/04/2011

The Clonea Strand Hotel is an excelant location with the sun shining during our stay. The staff were friendly with all the children having a great time. Very dated decor and basic food provided, with the rooms quiet small for a hotel. Not recommended for single people or couples.

I think Lidl breaks are fantastic value for money. We stayed in Clonea Strand, Dungarvan and it is a great place if you want to recharge the batteries! The hotel is very comfortable and warm and the food mwas a delight. The staff are very friendly. The setting is fantastic and you can walk on the beach a few times a day. It is lovely to sit in the car and watch the Atlantic and listen to the waves coming in and out. We will definately go there again. Mary Andrews Co. Cork

We really enjoyed our stay in the Clonea Strand Hotel in Octobet 2010. The location is brilliant, right beside a blue flag beach. The food was a bit 70's good portions and the staff were friendly. The room was spacious and clean but a bit dated. The only negative comment is that the breakfast would be better served as an Irish breakfast or continental. What is a controled buffet which is ridiculous it should be one or the other. Also we had items charged that should not have been but they were removed when the manager got involved. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay. great location for a break and quite close to Dungarvan.

Stayed in Clonea Strand Hotal for one night with our two year old grandaughter. Location perfect with the sea so close. Room very clean and spacious but a bit out dated. I had the smallest sea food chowder I have ever had not good value at nine euro fifty cent. Food in restaurent not great. Leisure centre was clean and overall we felt we got value for money and would return again Patricia Co Laois

Enjoyed a stay in the Clonea Strand in May this year. Location was perfect for a quiet, beachside getaway and the good weather that weekend was a bonus. Couldn't fault the food, staff or the facilities. Lidl breaks made it excellent value for money and we'll definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay in the Clonea Strand Hotel in May 2010. The location is brilliant, right beside a blue flag beach. The food was lovely and the staff were friendly. The room was spacious and clean. The decor is a bit dated. Our only negative comment is the staff could do with being better informed on what is happening in the area and the services available e.g. taxi. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay. great location for a family break.

This is a lovely hotel, clean and cosy. The staff are really nice and very accomadating. Just a stone throw away from a fantasic beach. Had such a good time we stayed an extra night.

The Clonea Strand Hotel is in a fabulous location, however the standard of the hotel is very poor. The leisure centre is out dated by 30 yrs as is the decor and the food impossibly bad, on the up side the staff were very helpful and friendly and rooms basic and clean.

Happy scored 5 / 5 on 30/06/2010

Stayed in the Clonea Strand Hotel for May bank holiday week-end. Food was rather limited but excellent value for what we paid on Lidl offer. Staff were very pleasant. Hotel could probably do with bit of refurbishment and weather wasn't very kind to us but well done to Lidl and Clonea Strand for offering such excellent value for money. Star rating prob *** and only because I feel hotel needs bit of refurbishment
