Went overnight with friends for a birthday celebration & was really impressed. The staff were warm & welcoming & rooms were spotless & spacious. We had our meal in Mc Gettigans bar & to say it was sumptuous is an understatement. From the manager Ash to bar & waiting staff we had a really enjoyable night. Breakfast next morning was lovely as were staff. Would highly recommend & will definitely be back.

The Royal Hotel and Leisure is a nice olde worlde type of hotel. We were assigned a room on the second floor. It was very clean and spacious. We had breakfast in the hotel which was self-service but excellent. I would be delighted to stay again in this hotel for another vacation.

Noel scored 3 / 5 on 28/02/2022

While the hotel itself was fine & acceptable, good value for money, a great leisure facility available & it's close proximity to all local amenities, the fact that a hot shower was unavailable on more than 1 occasion is unacceptable. I complained on departure, but the explanation was unsatisfactory for a paying guest.

Nice food. Good breakfast, but very noisy room… from the machinery running the leisure centre… don’t know why the hotel would use this room, when it clearly didn’t have full occupancy. Impossible to get a nights sleep

Old style Hotel in the centre of bray. Excellent spacious room, but shower was not hot. Staff very friendly and food Excellent too. Great for an overnight bargain break.

Bridget scored 3 / 5 on 29/01/2022

Room extremely clean & lovely fresh towels. Dinner in the evening was served in the bar & the music was far too loud for this reason I would not return in winter months as main restaurant was closed in the evening but opened for breakfast. Food was very good.

Michelle scored 3 / 5 on 26/08/2021

We did not receive a twin room as booked when I queried it we were offered a twin room but it was not acceptable as its location in hotel and size of room left a lot to be desired so we stuck with double room which was ok. The best thing about this hotel is the staff , overall they were lovely and extremely friendly and helpful.

Eileen scored 4 / 5 on 22/08/2021

Very centrally located hotel. Walking distance to beach. Clean tidy, so no complaints.

Magdalena scored 3 / 5 on 22/08/2021

Hotel is very, very dated and needs some serious update. Staff are lovely but that's the only positive thing about this place. We wouldn't stay here again.

Sally scored 3 / 5 on 14/08/2021

Although the food was fantastic beds very comfortable bar very reasonably priced and staff both in restaurant and bar lovely the rooms and corridors need updating very tatty you need to book swimming pool at least a week before your trip. Location is great in the high street 8-10 mins walk from dart station and seaside beautiful promande with plenty of bars and restaurants

Anita scored 4 / 5 on 08/08/2021

Hotel Old fashioned in some rooms but it has clean rooms very comfortable. The staff very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and choices are wide so ability to cater for vegan food with no hassle on all can't fault the only set back was having to book the pool due to covid restrictions but in all a very family friendly hotel great service would recommend

Hello there, so My Hubby & myself have stayed here a few times in the last number of years, we like although close to home an hr only from Balbriggan, we still feel we're away from home, Staff luvly & grub very nice too, & was great to get into a Swimming Pool for the 1st time in over a year now. I happened to hear an interview on LMFM a few wks ago with someone from Irish Mini-Breaks so I went googling & found the great offer of 2 Nights B&B for €160 , so until the next time ???????????? Regards Donna & Joe Duffy

Hotel is abit dated but the bar attached to it makes up for it. The service and the food were just fabulous. Room was lovely and clean. Very basic but it was fine.

This is an older hotel in the village, good staff, great bed and bed linen, good breakfast, bedroom was a little cold, but we were able to turn on radiator, it was fine for what we paid, no complaints

Lovely Hotel, staff very friendly and accommodating, COVID measures in place. Very near Bray Promenade and right in the town. No airco, so the room was warm, bit small, but clean and comfy beds

Nicole scored 1 / 5 on 07/07/2017

Very disappointing. Had 2 nights booked here. The first morning we woke up to the noise of the builders in a room directly across from us. We got a good deal on bargain breaks and I presume they had put us in this area of hotel as we didn't pay a full price. There were no other people staying on that floor and each morning we walked out there was dust and plaster all over the carpet of the corridor. We went down to reception to complain about the noise but no one was there. That evening I went to dry my hair and there was no hairdryer. Called reception and said they'd get one sent up. 25 mins went by and still no sign. Called again and same. 45 mins later finally got one but was too late. We checked out the morning after there was also a woman complaining. The receptionist just waved her hand at me and ignored me. Very annoying. No one around when I went to complain the first time and then when I went to talk to someone while checking out was hushed away.

Ber scored 1 / 5 on 03/11/2016

We arrived in Bray at 1 o'clock and we had our lunch in Mc Gettigans Bar which was nice but could have been a little bit hotter. We went up the town for a walk and arrived back after 3o' clock. There were 28 people in total as it was my mother and fathers 60th Wedding Anniversary. We were given our rooms from about 3.30 onwards, but my parents who are over 80 years of age were left sitting in reception until 4.40 which was totally ridiculous. The staff said that there was nothing they could do. But really how long does it take to clean a room, they didn't even offer them a cup of tea while they were waiting. To me that is very bad form and highly unprofessional.

Jb scored 4 / 5 on 03/11/2016

The hotel was ok the room was fine although no extractor fan in the toilet. The reception staff were awful, unprofessional, not able to deal with the public, or any kind of pressure, people or complaints, the management were the same rude, dismissive and uninterested However the bar staff, bar manager , breakfast staff were very good, and the leisure center staff very able. I felt sorry for the night porter how was under a lot of pressure. All in all I have to insist the it would be a lovely hotel but the receptionists and management of the hotel ,If you go there do not expect to be checked in after 3 it could take hours to get a room and don't bother complaining they just don't care in reception.

Margaret scored 2 / 5 on 12/09/2016

The hotel is in poor condition overall. First impressions weren't great with paint flaking off the front doors and reception area looking down at heel. My room was clean however and I had a comfortable night's sleep on both nights. Breakfast selection was of a very poor standard - I could eat very little but the coffee was good. The quality of the food did not inspire me to eat in the hotel bar. The only other positive is that the 145 bus from Dublin City Centre stops right outside the hotel for ease of access. Overall it was budget accommodation for a budget price, but I have to say I have experienced much better for the same rate. I don't think I would return.

Terry scored 3 / 5 on 08/12/2015

Booked 3 rooms for one night stay , they are in the middle of doing up this hotel, Reception Dining and Bar very nice. Brand new bar opened last week so should attract the young people. Some bedrooms not so good although the bathrooms were new and the beds and linen were good. But kettle plugs not working, no hairdryer or iron. Meals not great in Restaurant, and breakfast ok but nothing special. Staff a little down,as I understand that the Bank owned this hotel for the last 9 years. So staff not very friendly. Swimming pool great spotless and enjoyable. Hotel location perfect for Bray right in the town and just up from the Beach.

Mary scored 1 / 5 on 12/11/2015

Room disappointing, decor poor, floorboards very squeaky and toilet very noisy after flushing. Had difficulty operating the TV also. Breakfast choice very limited. While I appreciate the Hotel is undergoing some changes my experience of the Royal was very disappointing and I wouldn't be rushing back.

Not what you would expect from a Lidl Break Hotel, on arrival at hotel we were advised there was no parking and had to pay to park at the back when we got to car park it was full but the guy did try to squeeze us in. When we checked in we were asked to pay immediately this is always a tell tale sign with me that everything is not up to standard. We paid our bill and then we were given our room number which was 124, we were told to take the lift to the first floor, where we followed signs to a flight of stairs and then down a corridor to find our room. When we arrived in the room it was the most disgusting room I have seen in a hotel.... The first thing was the main light would not come in in room and only the side light at the beds, the smell was awful in the room damp musty and mould. We then noticed that the wallpaper was falling off the wall at the top and at the side of the bed. I suffer with Asthma and one of my allergens is mould and damp. I contacted reception and we were moved to room 153 this was sub standard and what you expect from the a regular room in a hotel and not a suite. At breakfast the service and the professionalism of the staff needs attention, at the cereal bar we had to ask for milk and one of the cereals was completed. The fry left a lot to be desired as well it was mostly burnt... We had a child with us that wanted to go swimming and we asked could we have a late check out and the reply we received was no your room is needed for Check in at three.... All in all we will not be returning.

Tess scored 2 / 5 on 10/08/2015

Melanie scored 1 / 5 on 07/06/2015

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The lobby looks modern enough but as soon as you go up in the (tiny) lift which feels like you're taking your life in your hands, upstairs is really old with creaking floors & peeling paint. Upon entering our bedroom we were faced with a tv the size of a laptop which had no remote! The room iyself is small & old-fashioned & extremely stuffy especially at night. The "double" bed was not much bigger than the single bed and was so springy and uncomfortable it was impossible to get a good night's sleep. The bathroom was tiny & fitted with a shower which only had two settings - boiling or freezing. The tiles were also cracked. Basically the whole place looks like it's falling apart.. Also the hotel carpark costs €5 per day and closes at 8 or 9 each evening so you can't get in or out after this time! The steamroom in the leisure centre has massive sections of broken tiles in the dirty seating area which must surely be a health & safety breach & the showers here only stay on for three seconds at a time when you press a button, making it impossible to wash long hair properly & even worse if you're trying to hold a child in your arms to wash! I have stayed in hotels all over & this has definitely been the worst by a mile. Not one single redeeming feature I'm afraid. Avoid at all costs.

Mr085 scored 2 / 5 on 26/03/2013

We were very disappointed with the meal we received on the 1st night... A bit of advice, ask to see the restaurant menu before you book your meal, and if there is nothing suitable, look for the bar menu. Rooms are quite small and in great need of attention on both furnishing and fittings. There is a serious lack of training for the staff,as it seems they don't know how to deal with complaints. On the plus side the girls in the leisure centre & beauty salon were fantastic, very friendly and extremely helpful as one of our party was pregnant they gave her a lot of advice and made her feel comfortable! Would recommend for a stop off hotel or for stag/hen.

This is a terrible hotel. The first room we were put into was meant to be a 'lovely' room and it was simply dreadful. I didnt stay in it long enough to do a full check taround but a simple example was that the door in the ensuite was about 6 inches to short and the room looked like something that you would see in a seedy backstreet hotel in a movie. The second room no. 153 was an improvement but an improvement from sub sub standand to sub standard. The carpet was filthy, the chair in the room was so badly stained you would not dream of sitting on it, the bed should be burnt immediately. The ensuite had a filty window with mildew , mildew in the grouting of the tiles, i actually wanted to cry and leave but we had paid in full and my husband decided we should just get by as we had planned activites outside of the hotel for the full of our stay. The dining room was fine but food display and presentation was dirty and i only drank a cup of tea on the first two mornings and we did not eat there at all on the third morning. Only positive was that the staff were pleasant and the reservations manager was understanding and did move us once but told me that the room she gave us the second time was as good as it gets and she would report our concerns to housekeeping. She did leave a note and box of chocolates in our room apologising for our bad stay. It was the worst hotel I have ever ever stayed in and looked forward to checking out! I will never ever be back and it ruined the first few days my husband and I had away together without the children in years.

Where do I start. Smell hits you as you walk in. Elevator from hell. Room lock wouldn't work. Room was old and dated with wafer thin window glass so you could hear everything outside. The meal was one hour late and was unetable. The breakfast was ok. We complained and got a free 7up. Cheers. I will not be returning or reccomending this hotel. Left tired and hungry. There was entertainment in the hotel on the Saturday night which was first class, a very entertaining band indeed, they played a great selection of music to suit all tastes , we loved the flat screen t v in our room and the coffee and tea making facilities, and we enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi this was my third time to stay at the Royal , and i would HIGHLY recommend it for it s hospitality and atmosphere Monica

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Royal Hotel for 2 nights recently and we both had a mostly enjoyable stay albeit for a couple of bad points. The staff were friendly and polite and had good local knowledge .The leisure centre facilities were excellent and we both availed of treatments. Included in the package was breakfast each morning which was delicious. What turned us off was the room...It was Freezing! The heating was on full blast but the room would not heat up due to the old single glazed windows that were fitted.Thankfully there was an extra blanket in the wardrobe that we could use but it was still cold. The other thing which was annoying was the lift. Our room was right next to it and it squeaked all day and all night and woke us up more than a few times! But for what we paid we would say it was very good value for money.

Only stayed for one night-needed a shower on the evening and the following morning before check out.On both ocasions there was no hot water available.I wouldn`t be that fussy about hotels when away(with the lads) but I would expect hot water as a minimum requirement.I wouldn`t be rushing back with my wife.

Sinead scored 1 / 5 on 13/03/2012

I would not rate this hotel very highly. My experience was a poor one. I had to change room twice before the room was satisfactory. The first room was minute, pokey, dark and had a bad smell. The second room was slightly better but still small. When I went to draw the curtains, the brass curtain rail came out of the wall. The third room was ok but still very small for two people. When I opened the 3rd room window, the chimney from the hotel kitchen was below and bellowed out bacon air! As a vegetarian, this was not ideal, so I kept the window shut. All 3 rooms that I experienced were tucked away in parts of the hotel that required a lot of weaving around tiny corridors. Perhaps these rooms are reserved for budget travellers!? I don't know. The leisure centre was the redeeming part of my experience - nice pool, sauna and jacuzzi.

We stayed in The Royal hotel in Bray last weekend, from Friday to Monday & had an absolute ball, coming from Dublin we were sceptical about staying not too far from home but it was the best decision we made. The hotel was spotless, we went for B&B for the three nights & it was well worth the money we paid. The kids loved the pool & Games room which had a pool table, an air hockey machine & a couple of video games. We also got to meet & watch Katie Taylor fight on two of the nights which was a surprise to us & we were delighted too. On Saturday night there was entertainment in the bar that was enjoyable. I will deffo be back here soon & can i just add that the staff were extremely helpfull & the Manager Richard made us very welcome, Thanks to all there :)

The Stay was lovely. We had a family room (one double, one single and a baby cot) which was very small. The bathroom was old. The cleaning in the room was far away to be perfect (dirt behind the bed, hair clip in the bathroom) it was obvious that the cleaning was quickly done. Breakfast was nice, it was a buffet. The cooker was so dirty with grease mark and specially under, it was black of dirt. We were very surprised that, beeing in a place where the customers can see it, the staff didn't clean the kitchen!

We were made feel at home from the moment we arrived at the car park. Great to have secure parking wort the five euro. Room was cosy and clean. Entertainment on the Saturday night live singer. Only thing is when he finnished the bar cleared out! Great location near the shops and bray sea front. We would use this hotel again and tell a friend.

Kevin scored 4 / 5 on 03/12/2011

We were very happy with the hotel: the family room we stayed in was large, well-equipped, very quiet, clean and comfortable. The only downside of the room was that it had no view, the windows looked out on to a slatted wall. The breakfast was basic but plentiful. The facilities, pool, gym, were good: accessible, clean and adequately equipped. The layout of the hotel reflects its ad hoc development, a core building with a series of extensions added on over time. Having said that, everything was easy to find and get to. For this customer, the attitude of the staff is one of the most important aspects of any hotel stay involving children, we found the staff at the Royal to be very friendly, professional and caring. Our stay at hotel combined with the very good value of a Lidl break deal means that our overall assessment is very positive.

Linda scored 5 / 5 on 02/11/2011

We used Lidl Breaks to organise and book an extended family reunion. The booking was easy and quick. On arrival the checking in was quick and the hotel was so helpful in regards to meals, facilities etc. We had our evening meal and breakfast the following morning. We had a great time and considering our children were floating around the games area, the lobby and bar area all night was of great comfort to us as they were in a friendly comfortable atmosphere where both parents and children could relax. The pool facilities were a welcome bonus especially for all the children who came with us, but congrats to Dave the night porter who put up with the mad crowd who kept him on his toes all night........thanks a million for the lovely break and we plan to make this a yearly event in the Royal Hotel in Bray. Cheers Linda Condon. 5+ stars for this hotel.....

Recently stayed October bank holiday weekend. Stayed with 2 kids and have to say great family hotel kids club been run and great leisure center. Good bar with good pint of Guinness ( always important) would definatly stay again in the hotel. Close to all things in bray and can walk to any of them only short distance away. Would really recommend to anyone with kids very family orientated which is great with 2 young kids.

Slightly run down, bedrooms good size, although bed was uncomfortable. We had dinner there on the two nights we stayed, first evening in the bar and second in the restaurant, both meals were not to a satisfactory standard, disappointing. Breakfast was not great either, bread had blue mould on it.

This hotel is in a great locations, within walking distance of all shops and pubs, and just around the corner from the beach. The rooms are very basic but spotless clean. We stayed in room 219 and to reach it we had to go up two flights of stair after using the lift so its def not wheelchair friendly, there seems to be steps everywhere. Breakfast was lovely each morning, there is a big selection. Bar food was really good too.Our dinner was included in the room rate but have to say that I wasnt very impressed with the selections, only 3 options of main course which is very poor. All in all, the hotel is great for a short break. Spa is lovely too, but book in advance if you want treatments. we wouldnt get a reservations at all over the whole weekend. which was very disapointing.

We had checked in on aLidl hote break just for one night. We were given a fabulous room and we ever got a card to wish us a Happy anniversary from the staff, which was a wonderful touch. Food in Bar and The restaurant was fantastic and the staff on reception were the best ive ever come accross. wonderful stay. highly recommend

The hotel was run down and not clean...the beds were substanard & there was no internet service...the breakfast was poor....four piece of white toast were brought to our table...not very appetizing. This hotel was not of the standard that we expected. I would not stay there again.

I have just spent the weekend at the royal hotel and have to say we throughly enjoyed our stay. Although the hotel does probably need a lick of paint the rooms were spacious and spotless. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. We booked 3 family rooms and were allocated rooms 140, 141, & 142. These were located off the main corrider (you could nearly say we had our own wing) with plenty of space for the kids to run around. The pool area was very nice and dressing rooms were spotless. The kids had a ball in the games room and leisure centre. Although breakfast was very busy we did not have to wait to be seated, nor did we wait for tea, coffee or toast. There were eleven of us and we were given seats together. The food was basic enough but very tasty and plentiful. We also had food in the bar which was great value and lovely too. All in all we had a great stay and I would definately recommend this hotel for a family break. My mother enjoyed it so much that she stayed on until today. Thanks to Don and staff.

My friend and I were really looking forward to staying this Hotel as we had very high expectations of it,unfortunately these expectations were not met the second we checked in. We had booked a twin room and when we went into to it the first thing we noticed was the smell of mustiness and damp, the room was tiny and there were stains on the walls beside one of the beds, the bathroom was disgusting and had obviously not been cleaned as there were hairs and stains in the bath. We had to go back to reception and request another room which we were given it was slightly cleaner but still very small. In our package deal dinner on one of the nights was included, when we arrived in the restaurant we were left standing for over 10 minutes as our booking was not in the book, when we were finally shown to our table we were left sitting for 20 minutes before our we placed our order, during this time many more tables had been filled with older couples and families and their order was taken a long time before ours. Half way through our main course I had to go up and ask the waitress for our drinks which we had ordered half an hour previous and the portion of chips I had ordered I never received,we were left waiting 40 minutes for our dessert to come out and no apologie from the waitress was given. I feel we were treated very badly because we are younger and the meal was already paid for. I would not recommend this hotel for its cleanliness or its service, the rooms are very small and dam and the staff are very rude and not very approachable. We were really looking forward to our weekend break and it was ruined from the moment we checked into this hotel.

went for a two nite break wit my husband on arrival to the hotel, trying to get parking was a nightmare, and when we eventually got parked we discovered that we had to pay €5 per nite. this is something that was not mentioned on booking. The swimming pool was freezing cold the leisure centre did not seem up to a good standard. no toiletries in the bathroom, which is unusual for a nice hotel....... but over all the food was first class.. compliments to the chef!!!!! and there staff was very friendly and helpful. but over all enjoyed the weekend, had great craic Phyllis

Very small family room accommodation, no refrigerator and basically no hot water for shower. Rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment and modernization. Leisure center swimming pool was very good except there is no family change rooms. Lots of steps and stairs throughout hallways which don't really accommodate prams or pushers.

On arrival our room was not ready, even though we arrived after 4 o'clock. We had to wait another hour for our room. We were in a family room on the second floor and took the lift as we have a baby in a buggy only to find we still had to climb several sets of stairs to get to our room which could not be accessed by the lift. It was very annoying not to mention awkward. Our room was ok, nothing spectactular but comfortable. Could have done with some more storage space as there was only a small wardrobe, and 3 small lockers. Hardly enough for a family of 4. The toilet in our room also leaked so they gave us extra towels to mop it up! Wasn't very impressed by this at all. However I can't fault the staff, they were very friendly and helpful. The food was lovely. The leisure facilities were excellent. The price of the break was very good. I would return if we were given a room that was better located in the hotel and had a proper working toilet.

Check in was smooth but room was of poor standard - we booked a family room which consisted of double and a single bed. The room was accessed via lift which was fine but once out of the lift on the floor you then had to negotiate steps to a lower floor that our room was on. Room was clean and tidy and bathroom appeared to recently modernised. But the big but was the view out of the window which was the middle of the hotel which housed the air conditioning units for the hotel and I suspect the kitchens and leisure centre! the noise was intense the droning hum from the air condition kept us awake most of the night including my daughter who was 4! not good planning for the hotel to put anyone in these rooms never mind a family with small children. we complained the following day to be told that majority of family rooms were full but if we returned later in the day she would speak to the manager and try and move us!!!! on our return to the hotel later we were advised that they had found us another room - which although quieter it was also given i felt in punishment for complaining knowing we had a small child with associated luggage the room was on the 2nd floor which was accessed again via lift but once out of the lift we then had to climb a very narrow stair case go through 2 doors and 2 corridors with luggage, small child and a not so happy husband. the room appeared very tired the bathroom was old and very very narrow - wardrobe was a single wardrobe and where the other room had an iron and iron board provided this room you were lucky to get enough hangers to hang your clothes on! Plus side dinning room and staff were excellent - staff couldn't do enough to help you and responded to my little one's difficult eating regime! we have stayed in the hotel before a number of years ago and yes whilst they seemed to have improved and modernised some areas of the hotel especially the provision of a childrens play room they rea

I have stayed here before and really enjoyed it so I booked it again for myself and Mother as we enjoy visiting Bray. The staff couldnt be more helpful in the Royal Hotel. On the last day which was a Sunday of our stay. We decided to have lunch before we left. There was alot on the menu but I didnt really fancy any of it so the chef said I could have anything I wanted. He made me pasta which wasnt on the menu that day which I thought was really kind of him, and oh my it was the nicest carbonara ive ever tasted! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Their customer service was amazing! I booked this for my brother and his girlfriend. I later rang reception telling them he passed his exams. I gave them my credit card detals and they put bubbly in his room. The receptionist also popped out to the shop for a card and chocolates! So nice! Bro really enjoyed his stay but did say the dinner was very bland and like "budget" food.

The rooms were clean and spacious. Did not think the food was great could definately be improved by using fresh ingredients and changing the fat in the deep fat fryers more regularly the chips tasted of onions ! We enjoyed our stay and feel we got value for money.

Dear lidl, in recent times we carried out a one night deal which included an evening meal at the Royal Hotel in Bray, on the whole we had a great experience. The only thing that let the hotel down was that it needed a little modernisation in certain areas. The reception staff were excellent and most helpful, the dining staff bent over backwards to assisst and can I also add it was an exceptionally super meal for the price we paid with excellent service included. The new leisure facility was in our opinion one of the besr which we have experienced in a long time...with wonderful heat, cleanliness and friendly staff. The bedroom was huge but lacking slightly in doubleglazing as it became a little cold at night and slightly noisy due to its location in what appears to be a busy little town. However regardless of noise I would like to complement the hotel on providing wonderful entertainment in their bar that evening and because of the fun and joy we had from start to finish, we can say truthfully that the only blip was a bit of noize and a little coldness at nightime but on the whole the hotel was a fabulous experience and exceptional value for what we paid. we most definately would return.

Irene scored 5 / 5 on 16/02/2011

We had a great time in this hotel from start to finish and what made it even more enjoyable was the fact that we had paid very little for it all. We had chosen a one night deal with bed breakfast and evening meal included. The evening meal was excellent with exceptionally friendly staff waiting on the tables...really they could not do enough for us. The breakfast next morning was also most enjoyable and in between times we had a most relaxing time at the leisure center...which was very clean and really looked like it was only in recent times renovated.....the bar entertainment was excellent with a nice jolly atmosphere about it...and the staff throughout the building were at all times very friendly and helpful. The bedroom for a double was exceptionally spacious...not modern but very clean. The bathtub was slightly leaking but for 49 euro could we complain definitely not. Overall a great experience at this hotel and generally Bray and what it had to offer was a most pleasant time...We would have no hesitations to go back or to reccommend to any friends or family. A great deal.

Staff was so professional and helpful. Cannot praise them enough. Dinner and breakfast were very tasty and filling. The dinner was very good value as it was a set 4 course meal for the price of the 2 courses paid in the offer. Pool and spa very good and only a short walk to the sea front. The room was adequate, however, the only thing that let the hotel down was the bathroom. It badly needs updating. All in all a very pleasant and enjoyable stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

We had a little problem with heat in the room when we arrived however staff immediately changed us to a fabulous different room. 2 Things in my view make a perfect break away - 1 Good grub and 2 - staff . If you have an issue that it is resolved without question. The Bar and restaurant Staff and Receptionist couldn't have been better. Our meal was piping hot and even the snack when we arrived was piping hot and well presented. We will be back for Sunday lunch - inexpensive, well presented and great choice.

The negatives: The room could do with double glazing as the road noise is quite high. The internet was not working properly and staff did not seem to know how to sort it out. The positives: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice enough and the food was very good. Enjoyed the leaisure centre. I would recommend this hotel. Dont expect a glamourous place as it is quite old but do expect a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.

Curtains in room hanging off rails, as in they werent put up properly. Had dinner and breakfast included in the stay, had dinner on the first night, it was ok, not very tasty. Very good value for money, had a lovely meal in the restaurant, no complaints, about the breakfast either, attended a wedding party and could not fault any aspect of it. My only complaint and it is a complaint, our room no 315 was extreemly dated, and is no more deserving of 1.5 stars. The bedroom photo above was nothing like my room, it was like something from the 1980s, and a new carpet, wall paper, wardrobe, and total refurbishment of the bathroom is required.

Thought the Lidl breaks was good value for money. Had priced around and as far as I could tell it was the cheapest way to get a hotel! The hotel was nice, possibly a little old fashioned.. but I was happy with it. LCD tv in the room, comfy bed and a very decent breakfast. Never got a chance to use the leisure centre, which was one of my main reasons for picking the hotel!

The staff were very friendly to us at all times and the hotel was very child friendly with a great swimming pool and games room on site. we didnt mind having to pay for car parking because our car was safe at all times and if we were our late there was always spaces held when we got back.We hope 2 enjoy a lidl break again.

This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in! The photos that appear on the website are totally deceiving and this is not the standard that you will be greeted with. On arrival we were welcomed by friendly staff and shown to our room which was absolutely filthy and very noisy, I requested another room and after 45 minutes we were shown to our new room which seemed to be an improvement if you don't mind looking out onto a rubbish filled yard outside. We were soon to discover that the air conditioning didn't work so the heat in the room was intense and the bedlinen didn't look or feel as if it had been changed. When the lavatory was flushed the noise from the pipes was like an overhead helicopter and the water had to be turned on for at least 5 minutes before it became warm! The breakfast was acceptable but the staff seemed to be rushed off their feet. Upon checkout I voiced my concerns to the receptionist who apologised however when she thought we were out of earshot she sniggered with another member of over my comments. I left the hotel feeling very annoyed and hard done by. A very disappointing first time experience with lidl breaks.

We booked with Lidl Hotels last week to stay one night with the two kids as a treat for us all, how ever this was not to be the case. When I went in to check in my husband stayed with the kids and unloaded the car. After about 10 mins of fussing and ringing around and looking the girl told me that we were not on the system and that as the hotel was booked out they had booked us into the Ramada ten minutes away. I was perplexed!!! I had not booked into the Ramada, had no idea what it was like and it had no pool a main reason for us booking The Royal Hotel. I was very upset and asked to speak to a manager, I have to say how this man got his job is beyond me and I really really hope he owns this hotel otherwise the person paying him a good wadge is being ripped off!! He says, casual as you like, yeah are system went down, took 4 too many bookings, booked you in the ramada, nothin I can physically do bout it, look, nothin I can physically do?????? Never even said sorry!!! Lucky the girl on reception turned out to be so nice or I could have bloody clocked him one! Had no choice but to check into the Ramada, it was grand. 40 extra than The Royal which the girl on reception said she would give us to say sorry and to please use the pool in The Royal when ever we wanted, it was a pain driving up and down with the 3 kids and we had to taxi to the seafront that night and back as we wanted to have a few drinks with dinner. Ah well, I might try The Royal again as the girls were so nice on reception but that's as much as I know.

We had a great time here. It was a last minute decision, last Saturday 17/7/10 and must say it was a good one. We have 2 kids, 6 & 8, they really loved the free kids club in the evening and the following morning, they even took them swimming. (They loved the kids club staff) We got a family room which was huge, a room for the kids for themselves and 2 tv's..... Restaurant was fine, good food, very good value. Not a trendy hotel, but an honest, well ran place, slightly dated but clean with friendly staff and good facilities. What more can you ask for. Definitely will go back again via Lidl - incredible value for money.

The hotel has excellent children facilities and excellent leisure facilities. The restaurant and bar areas are also of a very high standard. The only problem we encountered was the room. The heat at night was unbearable and as our room was to the front of the hotel on a main busy road we had to keep the window closed to keep the noise levels down. We really enjoyed our break though and will return to this hotel and will definitely book with lidl breaks again.
